CountDown: Days Until Widget
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Sangita Gautam (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the CountDown: Days Until Widget mobile application for iOS (the “App”).
The short version: your countdowns, photos and reminders stay on your device. There are no ads, no accounts, and nothing that tracks you across other apps or websites. We do use Google Firebase for anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, which you can read about in Section 4.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect your countdowns or their contents. The App has no user accounts and never sends your events to us.
The App stores the following only on your device, in storage that belongs to the App and to its widget:
- Your countdowns and their settings (title, date, repeat rule, color or photo, icon, reminder times and units);
- Copies of any photo you choose as a countdown background;
- Items in Recently Deleted, until you remove them;
- Automatic daily backups and any file you export; and
- App preferences, such as your filters, theme and whether you have seen the onboarding.
Your countdowns are shared with the App’s own widget and Live Activity through a private Apple App Group on your device. That is a local container — it is not a server, and no other app can read it.
2. Your Countdowns and Photos
Everything the App does — counting, rendering posters, scheduling reminders, drawing widgets — happens entirely on your device. We do not upload, copy, transmit or store your countdowns or the photos you add to them, and we have no way to view them. We do not analyze your photos for advertising, profiling, facial recognition or any similar purpose.
3. Device Permissions
The App asks only for what a feature needs, and only when you use that feature.
- Notifications — to deliver the reminders you set for an event, milestone reminders, and the daily morning note. The App does not send marketing notifications.
- Photos — you pick a background image with Apple’s system photo picker. The App receives only the image you select and never gains access to your photo library.
- Siri & Shortcuts — if you ask Siri how long until an event, iOS handles the request and the answer is produced on your device.
You can change these at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security, or for notifications in Settings → Notifications. The App does not use your camera, microphone, location, contacts, calendar or health data.
4. Analytics, Crash Reporting, and Remote Config
The App includes three Google Firebase services. They help us understand whether features work and find crashes. They never receive your countdowns, your photos, or the text you write.
- Google Analytics for Firebase — anonymous, aggregated usage events, such as that a countdown was created or a screen was opened, together with general device information like model, iOS version, language, country and whether you use light or dark mode.
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports, containing the technical state of the App at the moment it stopped working. In App Store terms this is “Crash Data,” it is not linked to your identity, and it is used only to keep the App working.
- Firebase Remote Config — lets us change a few settings, such as which support address appears, without shipping an update. It sends us no personal data.
We do not set a user ID, do not collect the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), and do not attempt to identify you personally from this data. Firebase’s own handling of it is described in Firebase’s privacy documentation.
5. Advertising and Tracking
The App shows no advertising and contains no advertising software. It does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, so it does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information.
6. Subscriptions and Purchases
CountDown Premium subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. The App asks Apple, on your device, whether you have an active subscription so it can unlock Premium features. Apple’s handling of your purchase is described in Apple’s privacy policy.
7. Widgets, Live Activities, and Siri
Home Screen, Lock Screen and StandBy widgets, and the Live Activity shown on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, read your countdowns from the App Group on your device and draw them there. Anything a widget or Live Activity displays is visible to anyone who can see your screen, including on a locked device — please bear that in mind when choosing titles for private events.
8. Backups, Export, and Deletion
Your countdowns stay on your device until you remove them.
- Deleting a countdown moves it to Recently Deleted; removing it there deletes it for good, including any photo copy it used. Your original photos in your library are not affected.
- The App makes an automatic daily backup on your device. You can turn this off in the App’s settings.
- You can export your data to a JSON or CSV file. Where that file goes afterwards, and who can read it, is then up to you.
- Backup and export files are stored in the App’s own folder, which is visible in the Files app so you can manage them yourself.
- Deleting the App removes its countdowns, backups and exports from the device.
- Like other app data, these files may be included in backups of your device that you make with iCloud or a computer. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple.
9. When You Contact Us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you, and keep it only as long as needed to help you. You can ask us to delete it at any time. Our website is hosted by Google Firebase Hosting, which may record standard technical information (such as IP addresses) to operate and secure the site.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act give you rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Because your countdowns never reach us, there is nothing of yours for us to hand over or erase beyond any emails you have sent us and the anonymous statistics described in Section 4, which cannot be traced back to you. To make a request, contact us at the address below.
11. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
12. Security
Your content is protected by the security of your device, including iOS app sandboxing and your device passcode. Because we do not receive your countdowns or photos, they are not exposed to a server breach on our side.
13. International Users
Sangita Gautam is based in India. The Firebase services described in Section 4 are operated by Google and may process the anonymous data they collect on servers outside your country, under Google’s own safeguards.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If the App ever starts to collect or share information in a new way, we will update this policy before that change takes effect and revise the “Last updated” date above.
